Blackbird Stables was a passionate hobby turned business in early 2018. We opened up our private farm so that everyone regardless of ability, age, or status could experience the same love and passion that we have for horses. What once was a just a young girl’s dream turned reality thanks to the love, support, and help from family and a few close friends. Our barn is like a family full of people and four legged friends alike.
Alex has been around horses her entire life. She learned the love of horses thanks to her mom and her first pony, who she rode at the age of 2. From there she dabbled in different styles including Western Pleasure, Dressage, and Trail riding until ultimately finding her passion in the Hunter and Jumper ring. At the age of 11, Alex purchased her first horse, an off the track thoroughbred (pictured below). The 3 year old gelding was only trained to do one thing…run. With a lot of patients, time, and fearlessness…. or a bit of crazy, depending on who you ask, she broke him and they became a dynamic duo in the show ring. Duce just celebrated his 23 birthday and is enjoying his time at the farm as a semi retired horse!
When not in the barn Alex enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She’s passionate about family, friends, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Her goal is to be able to share her love of horse with everyone and anyone. Alex’s philosophy is most horse behavioral issues are rider created and it is our job to first look at how we can improve ourselves before blaming the horse. She will never pretend to be anything that she isn’t and is constantly learning to be the best equestrian she can be. What she can promise, is that she will be fair, kind, and always put the safety of the horse and rider first. Most importantly she hopes that everyone that leaves the farm leaves with a smile on their face and even if it was a “bad” day at the barn they can take something away and learn how to improve
“Some horses will test you, some will teach you, and some will bring out the best in you.”
